A while back I wrote a blog on how life is so much better when you’re laughing as I’d become aware of just how positive of an impact laughter has on our health and well being. As the saying goes, laughter is the best medicine! It adds joy and zest to life, helps to relieve stress and can improve your mood and mental functioning. Yet that said, how many days do you find yourself so focused on doing things that it’s not until the late evening you realize there wasn’t much happiness or laughter in your day?
Like you, I have noticed I can sometimes slip back into familiar territory of putting my head down and getting things done without spending much time or effort in coming up for air to take a moment and appreciate all that is going on around me. This year I decided I wanted to change things up and look for ways to bring more laughter into my life throughout the day. The result? I feel much more relaxed and at ease – mentally, emotionally and physically. My to do list hasn’t gone down in size yet I feel much happier in tackling each activity after a laughter break.
A great source of laughter comes by simply being present and aware of what is going on around you.
Seeing the comical side of most situations just makes life that much easier!
I recently observed a very funny dialogue exchange between a father and young daughter at the grocery store that made me laugh out and noticed others around me were doing the same.
This experience made me want to find out what other funny things were children saying to their parents and for this I turned to Quora, a great website where you can ask any question you want about anything to find out what people have on their mind or what they have experienced. I went to work and typed in” what are simple yet meaningful words kids say?” and below are just a few of the hilarious responses that popped up.
In the words of Milton Berle, laughter is an instant vacation! Read on as you’re about to take one that you won’t need to pack a bag for or spend countless hours searching out the best deal on flights and accommodation!

Below is a conversation a man observed between 2 sisters who were approximately 4 and 8 years of age:
Older sister – “You look like a boy.”
Younger sister – “No. I’m not a boy. Everything inside me is a girl. My face, my hands, my tummy, everything.
Older sister – “But what if you are pregnant with a boy? Than everything inside you is not a girl anymore!”

From a Ted Talk titled how school kills creativity where a kindergarten teacher is walking around viewing the drawings children are making and she stops to ask one girl what she is drawing.
Girl’s reply – “I’m drawing God.”
Teacher’s response – “But no one knows what God looks like.”
Girl’s reply – “They will in a minute.”

A mother shared her memory of comments her 5 year old son made when they were in their car driving to an event. It was in the winter so everyone was dressed in clothing that was appropriate for cold weather. Along the way they had to stop on the road as a herdsman walked his sheep across the road. While watching this she heard her son let out a loud “hmmm”. She asked him what happened and his reply was full of wisdom and seriousness:
“See, it’s pretty cold, all the goats are wearing sweaters.” Everyone in the car immediately burst into laughter and he failed to understand why.

A 4 year old boy talking to his Mom: “Ok Mommy, I don’t get into trouble if I tell you first, right?”
Mom – “Well, that depends but you should always be honest and talk to us.”
Son – “Ok, I only ate one cookie, just one…but I tried them all first.”

A 6 year old boy asks his Dad:

A father asked his 4 year old son who was staring at his new born sister in the hospital with all the pipes, tubes masks etc attached and surrounded by machines,”Do you know what’s happening there?”

“Tell then.”
“She is still getting charged.”

This was great Denise. Thanks. And you are right. Laughter really is medicine. I had that very thought this weekend when feeling very sad and lost. And then remembered something from my childhood that was funny and it was like instant pain relief. Thanks for the reminder. We often just take ourselves too seriously.

Thank you for the timely reminder. We do not laugh enough. My boss is Scottish and I so enjoy teasing him. He has a funny sense of humor and it is to be appreciated.
I enjoyed the stories as they brought a smile to my face.
