Superfood has become a buzz word in recent times but does anyone even know what it is? Even Wikipedia is a bit vague in its definition:
“Superfood is a marketing term used to describe foods with supposed health benefits.”
While some people may debate what should and shouldn’t be classified as a superfood, I don’t think there’s too much room for debate on just how health conscious we have become over the past decade.
Anyone up for candle flow yoga? Or how about the Brooklyn Bridge Boot Camp?
Grocery shopping nowadays is much more confusing than it was a decade ago also, as nearly every label you see has one or more of the following words:
1. Gluten free
2. Dairy free
3. Organic
4. Non GMO
5. 100% natural vs 100% pure (and the difference is??)
6. Sugar free
7. Low fat
8. Soy free
9. 100% whole wheat
10.No artificial flavouring
And these are just a few of the many we all see! Sometimes I feel I need a masters degree to understand some ingredient lists!
For me, I like to keep things simple when I think of superfoods. I view them as being nutritionally dense, and based on my own research, they are foods that have been found to have healing and dietary benefits. What’s good for the body is good for the mind, so I also focus on what impact certain foods can have on brain health and adjust my diet accordingly.
To make it easier for you, below is the ultimate guide to superfoods.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and views on superfoods and if there are any items on your list that aren’t included here!
